The Saronic Gulf (Σαρωνικός κόλπος, Saronikós kólpos) forms part of the Aegean Sea. It begins at the eastern end of the Corinth Canal, which cuts across the isthmus. The port of Piraeus (main Greek port), found on the northeastern edge of the gulf. along with the famous Attiki coastal resorts to the northeast. It also includes the northeast Pelopenesse mainland.

The Islands that are situated in the middle of the Gulf are Aegina, Salamis, and Poros along with smaller the islands of Patroklou and Vleves. The south islands include Hydra and Spetses. Beaches are lined up to much of its coast from Poros to Epidavros, Galataki to Kineta and from Megara to Eleusis and from Piraeus down to Anavyssos and from Galatas to Nafplion. The volcano of Methana overlook both Poros Island and Aegina. Methana is the youngest (no longer active) volcano that sits at the northwestern end of the cycladic arch of active volcanoes including Milos, Santorini and Nisyros islands. The last eruption on Methana took place underwater of the north coast of Methana in the 17th century.

The origin of the name Saronic comes from the mythological king Saron who drowned in the Psifaei lake (modern Psifta). The Saronic Gulf was a string of six entrances to the Underworld, each guarded by a chthonic enemy in the shapes of thieves and bandits.

This is an ideal destination for combining short cruises with exploring the many sights this area of Greece has to offer. These include Athens, Corinth, Ancient Olympia, Epidavros, Mycene. The islands are quiet destinations as they have no direct airports and so package holidays tend to go elsewhere. This area is very popular with Greeks taking time away from Athens.

Local harbours can be found on all the islands and many of the coastal areas.
